We are proud to announce the launch of the BubbleCow Newsletter.

This will be a monthly newsletter with the first installment to be sent on 1 September 2009.

Only recipients signed up BEFORE 1 September 2009 will receive the newsletter for that month.

The September newsletter will contain :

  • Unpublished tips for editing your manuscript,
  • Unpublished ‘how to get published’ tips,
  • An interview with Horrible Histories writer Terry Deary,
  • I don’t usually give advice to writers because no one can teach someone else to write any more than you can teach someone to breathe. For writers the craft comes naturally. Schools try to ‘teach’ people to write “correctly” but that is not the same as writing something worthwhile. If teachers knew how to write something readable they wouldn’t be teachers, they’d be writers.

  • An interview with top cover designer Ned Hoste,
  • The design and production process varies from book to book – each project by the nature of the publishing industry has to have it’s own identity – even when it is in a series. I like to work closely with the author and/or publisher to understand the book and to identify its market. This involves conversations, sketches, ideas and concept roughs, it can also involve sourcing illustrators, photographers or picture research. Once these roughs are done and approved by the publisher, author and sometimes by the big book buyers like Smiths the final visual is commissioned and the final print file is prepared.

The newsletter is an interesting idea. Look forward to the first issue.

There is some problem with the form – or it is me – but it keeps asking me to confirm my e-mail address when I have already done so.
