I have been using the rather excellent Hoot Suite for about two weeks. The website allows you to control your Twitter output and get some kind of feedback. One of the very useful facilities the site offers is the ability to track the number of people who click on links embedded in your tweets. @bubblecow has just over 1000 followers and sends tweets with links on average ten times a day.
Here is what I have learnt from the past two weeks:
- I received 1888 clicks in 15 days.
- The best day saw 277 clicks.
- 50.3% of clicks come from the United States, 31.9% from the UK, 4.9% from Ireland, 4.3% from Canada and the rest from ‘other’.
- The top tweets:
- How an agent submits your book to a publisher. (97 clicks)
- What’s your score on the Procrastination Index? (72 clicks)
- Essential reading for writer: Interview with HarperCollins editor (part 1) (part 2) (64 clicks)
- This is a great post about what readers actually read when they come to your blog/website. (51 clicks)
- Go here if you are interested in getting your self published book reviewed. (45 clicks)
- 7 essential websites for writers looking to improve their online presence. (45 clicks)
I was hoping to draw some stunning insights from the stats, but it seems that the only thing I can say is that links that match my following get the most clicks. I did see a slight trend towards tweets that I began with phrases like…’I love this link’ or ‘Great link’.
